Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches Board Member
Recipient of Healthcare Heroes® Award

Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. is proud to announce that Barbara E. Golden, Ph.D., is the recipient of this year’s 2008 Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches Healthcare Heroes Award. A Healthcare Hero is an institution, individual, professional, Board member, allied health professional, community leader, volunteer or program who, through their collective actions, has made an extraordinary impact in the Palm Beaches’ health care community.

Dr. Golden defines not only a Healthcare Hero, but so much more. She devotes her personal and professional life promoting the well being of individuals, which translates into the well being of the community. She has been instrumental in raising money for renovations of the Center, as well as implementing a program in which clients learn from volunteer teaching artists entitled “Art at Jerome Golden.” The art classes teach much more than artistic technique; the program helps clients build self-esteem and enhance cognitive abilities. More than 60 students have completed the program and have shown their works at the annual art show at the Center. The program also seeks to increase positive contact between the clients of Jerome Golden and the community.

As a current member of the board of directors for Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Dr. Golden exemplifies Jerome Golden’s mission to help clients build resiliency, facilitate recovery and achieve reintegration into the community. She lives up to her role as a board member each day, not only by creating fundraising opportunities for Jerome Golden, but also by assisting in the design and ensuring the quality of behavioral health care services that meet the needs of Jerome Golden clients. She also contributes to initiatives to reduce violence through her work with the American Psychological Foundation.

Awarded Accreditation from the Joint Commission

By demonstration compliance with the Joint Commission’s nationals standards for health care quality and safety, Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Ins., has earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval.

Founded in 1951, the Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nations’ health care through voluntary accreditation.

In becoming accredited, the Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc., was evaluated against a set of national standards by a Joint Commission team experienced in the delivery of behavioral health care services,” says Mary Cesare-Murphy, Ph.D., executive director, Behavioral Health Care Accreditation Program., Joint Commission. Achieving accreditation demonstrates Jerome Golden’s commitment to provide high and safe quality care.

Jerome Golden seeks accreditation because the Center wants to be the best and views obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward excellence. Accreditation is attainable only through cooperation and communication among staff and members. Everyone plays a vital role in working to meet the standards.

Jerome Golden Center CEO Appointed to
Mental Health Corporation of America Board

Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. is proud to announce that Dr. Linda DePiano, CEO, has been selected to serve on the Mental Health Corporation of America (MHCA) Board.

Dr. De Piano, who will serve on the Board until February 2011, is excited about her new position. “I am proud to have been selected to serve on the Board for The Mental Health Corporation of America. This organization is comprised of the top CEO’s from the behavioral healthcare arena across the country. It is truly an honor to work with the current members to further the mission of MHCA which is to strengthen its members' competitive position, enhance their leadership capabilities and facilitate their strategic networking opportunities.”

MHCA is a national alliance of select, not-for-profit behavioral health organizations whose collective talents, knowledge, and experiences can bring about profound change. By working together, MHCA believes that community behavioral health providers can rise to the challenges presented by transforming the healthcare delivery system. Through its commitment to leadership and service excellence MHCAensures stable services of the highest quality for their members, customers and communities.

Established in 1984, MHCA is now represented by 143 behavioral health corporations in 34 states. MHCA provides numerous products and services to its members plus quarterly conferences where behavioral health CEOs meet to share expertise, learn from others both inside and beyond the behavioral health field and advance best practices across all programs within their organizations. Membership in the MHCA is by invitation only.

Jerome Golden CENTER EARNS CERTIFICATION FROM NONPROFITS FIRST

Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. has been certified by Nonprofits First, a Boynton Beach-based consultancy that helps nonprofit organizations establish standards for quality and accountability. 

The certification verified standards were met in these areas: client services, administration and governance; human resources and fiscal management. 

Patricia Allard, director of agency certification for Nonprofits First, presented the plaque to Dr. Linda De Piano, Jerome Golden Center’s CEO, and the Board of Directors.

She called the certification “a tremendous accomplishment” and congratulated the board for its “stellar role.” and thanked the staff for their cooperation.
