“May is Mental Health AwarenessJerome Golden donates $1 Million to Jerome Golden Center
The Center will change its name to
"The Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health, Inc."

Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. was recently given a generous gift of over one million dollars by long-time supporter, Jerome Golden. This gift comes as Jerome Golden Center celebrates their 40th year as the premier provider of mental and behavioral health services to the Palm Beach County community. In light of this most-charitable gift, the Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches will be renamed “The Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health, Inc."

"We are so appreciative for Jerry Golden's significant donation to the Center," said Linda De Piano, CEO of Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc.. "Jerry is an extraordinary person and a true philanthropist, whose compassion and vision for the Center, and the people we serve goes beyond measure," she added.

"The recent announcement of the wonderful gift to the Jerome Golden Center is evidence that members of our community understand the importance of the Center as a mental health safety-net for our brothers, sisters, friends and neighbors going thru difficult periods in their lives," said Jon Van Arnam, Assistant County Administrator. "In this period of government belt-tightening and reduced funding for non-profit organizations, it is particularly relevant and noteworthy that a private donor has recognized the critical work of Jerome Golden and has made a donation that will positively impact the lives of so many of our citizens," he added.

In 1970, the Center opened as one of the first federally funded center under the Community Mental Health Center act signed by President John F. Kennedy. For 40 years the Center has been providing a full range of behavioral health services to adults, families, adolescents and children of northern, western and central Palm Beach County.

To this day, the Center’s mission is to help clients build resiliency, facilitate recovery and achieve reintegration into the community by designing and delivering behavioral health, mental health and substance abuse services that meet their needs and expectations. Among the services the Center provides to more than 9,000 individuals annually include a Mobile Crisis Team which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to individuals in crisis; a 44 bed Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital; Coping with Economic Stress program designed to assist individuals develop the necessary coping skills to deal with the negative implications of the economy; Supported and Supervised Housing which provides safe and affordable housing for those who need assistance with daily living and homelessness; Healthy Beginnings Program designed to provide specialized therapeutic services for pregnant women or women with children to help reduce or prevent maternal depression; and programs for veterans who have "hidden wounds" and their families enduring the stress of their loved ones being away and in danger. These are just a few of the comprehensive array of services offered by the Center.

On May 17th, city officials, staff members and, most importantly, those we serve at the Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc., attended the 4th Anniversary of the Barbara and Jerry Golden Pavilion.

Four years ago, Barbara and Jerry Golden generously donated funds to the Center to construct a pavilion on the grounds of the Center where clients could sit in the shade and socialize while waiting for their programs to begin or their transportation.

It was certainly a day of fun and celebration. The clients were treated to a delicious barbecue donated by the Goldens, clients were recognized for their achievements and presented with Certificates of Congratulations and a poem of thanks to the Goldens was composed and read by person served, Cindy.

Linda DePiano, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of the Center said a few words and Mayor Lois Frankel, City of West Palm Beach, was there to celebrate with us.

Jerome Golden CENTER RECEIVES $50,000 PALM HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION GRANT FOR PROGRAM ENTITLED “COPING WITH ECONOMIC STRESS”

The Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches, Inc. announces the award of $50,000 from the Palm Healthcare Foundation for an inaugural program “Coping with Economic Stress.” Without strong systems in place to help families and individuals whose lives have been disrupted by job loss or significant income reduction, the community cannot adequately cope with economic stress. This grant will support a program to provide individuals with the necessary coping skills to deal with the negative implications due to the current economy. “We are truly grateful to Palm Healthcare Foundation for supporting this important and timely initiative” said Dr. Linda DePiano, Chief Executive Officer of the Jerome Golden Center of the Palm Beaches. DePiano credited Barbara E. Golden, Ph.D. and Kristin McCabe, MS, with the development of this innovative program after reading the extensive research of Dr. Rand Conger and Dr. Glen H. Elder on families in economic crisis.

Through a series of 5 free workshops the participants will engage in activities including group discussions, education, and role play designed to identify stressors, increase resilience, improve coping skills, improve family communications and strengthen ties to the community. Individual and family therapy will also be offered to maximize the benefits of the workshop.
